Finish Masonry Heater
This custom-built, highly efficient heater, based on technology perfected in the European middle ages, takes about 25 pounds of wood and creates a fire that burns at 1,700 to 2,000 degrees F leaving the masonry brick in the heater clean (no ash cleanup) and producing a masonry mass heat that lasts for 24 to 36 hours. Beautiful as well as functional!
Larch Beams
The 14 inch x 6 in ceiling beams offer a rich, reddish strength to the great room, sun room, foyer, entry porch, master bedroom, and guest bedroom.
Western Cedar Shake & Larch Plank Siding
The upper exterior siding is thick cedar shake (not the usual thin shingles) while the lower siding consists of three rows of 14 in x 3 in larch.
Clerestory Windows in the Great Room
The clerestory windows allow sunshine to splash down into the Great Room providing ample daytime light.
Private Well See the dowser in action!
The 320 ft well provides 8-12 gallons per minute of clear, cold water. The well's depth means the well casing contains about 450 gallons of water at all times. The static water level is 10 feet below the surface.
Beach view of Pend Oreille Lake
285 feet of Waterfront with a Clay Lake Bed
The waterfront has rock riprap to prevent erosion as well as a clay, non-rocky lake bed. The waters are about 30 inches deep between June and early September, ideal for children and providing a comfortable temperature for people just wanting to wade or drift on the water. With permits, a trench can be dug to connect to a 9-foot channel approximately 75 feet from the shore so a dock could be built for your sailboat. The lake lowering in the fall and winter permits lake bed cleaning in the fall or spring, as well as a super place to fashion an ice rink.
Central Vacuum System
The strong vacuum motor is located in the garage with inlets located conveniently throughout the house.
Custom Kitchen & Bathroom Cabinetry
Vertical grain fir and hardwoods were used to construct the bathroom and kitchen cabinets.
Natural Gas
Three natural gas meters were installed - one for the main house, one for the apartment, and one for the 30 foot x 40 foot shop. The three areas have separate heating systems. The main house has central heat with an electrostatic air filter, while the apartment and shop have space heaters. Gas hookups are provided for the dryer, kitchen stove, and backup generator.
Water Treatment System
Due to the well depth, the water has an iron taste. The water conditioning system eliminates the taste.
Zone: Rural
Along this quiet country road, minimum size of parcels is 5 acres.
Drainage Systems for Moving Water Away from the House
The following drainage combination keeps the house crawl space and the ground around the house dry: a curtain drain located approximately 68 feet from the house that contain 6 inch ADS; 6 inch ADS drainage pipe along the house exterior; and 4 inch PVC drainage along the crawl space interior.
430 sq ft Apartment
Located on the northwest side of the house, this space can be used as a separate apartment or office. A kitchen area and bathroom are provided. The apartment is heated by a Waterford gas heater and has a gas meter separate from the house and garage. The front wall is framed for converting area to additional garage space, if desired. Lake and mountain views are only a glance away.
30 ft x 40 ft Detached Shop
This building has two 10-foot high overhead door entrances and a sliding barn door side entrance along with three 4-foot doors. The building has a second level (approximately 900 sq ft) that is ideal for storage. The building has a never-used, new gas overhead heater.
